Physics is a major branch of science that deals with the properties of matter and energy and their interactions. In its broadest sense, physics involves the study of the complete natural world, from subatomic particles to the behaviour of the universe as a whole.

The word ‘physics’ is derived from Greek ‘physikos’ which means ‘of nature’. Until the late 19th century, physics was known as natural philosophy.
