Anthropology is the study of human beings, human society and human behaviors. The word culture is used as shorthand for the range of human experiences, interactions and rules, and anthropology believes that much of culture is symbolic. That is, human beings don't conceive of the world literally or only in terms of function, but add intangible value and meaning to things. There are four schools of thought in anthropology: biological pr physical anthropology, cultural or social anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and archeeology, and most insist on fieldwork as the basis for generating knowledge.
