From ArticleWorld

The history of science tracks and assesses not just isolated scientific developments and their genesis. Rather, it also traces changes and developments in: the epistemological assumptions underlying science, its techniques, standards of proof, and institutions; in the scientific method; the common understanding of empirical knowledge; and paradigm shifts. The history of science also engages with non-western scientific traditions and the relationship between science and society.

The history of science has a number of sub-disciplines and interacts with other fields of inquiry, including, the histories of philosophy, mathematics, sociology, economics, and technology.
