Sociolinguistics is study of the relationship between language use and social, economic, and cultural factors. It often involves the examination of lects, and the differing use of the same language by members of different social classes, gender, education level, and ethnic or religious groups. Sociolinguistics focuses on the influence of society on language, while the sociology of lanaguage is concerned with the effect of language on society.
