The branch of mathematics concerned with the techniques developed to study the relationship between sides and angles of a triangle is called trigonometry. It also deals with the application of trigonometric functions to any angles. The word ‘trigonometry’ is derived from two Greek words which mean ‘triangle’ and ‘measurement’.
Trigonometry is applied in fields where angles and distances need to be computed using indirect methods, like in finding distances between celestial bodies. Trigonometry is widely used in astronomy, navigation, surveying and many branches of engineering.
