Altair is a star that belongs to the constellation Aquila. It is the twelfth brightest star that can be seen at night and is the brightest star in its constellation. This star is a type "A" star also known as a white star. It is one of the stars that is visible to the naked eye and only 17 light years away from the Earth. It is part of the Summer Triangle which is a triangle connecting the constellations Aquila, Cygnus and Lyra. One of the triangle's vertices fall on Altair. The name of the star has its origins in the Arabic language where it means the flyer.
