Armageddon

From ArticleWorld

The term Armageddon is used to refer to a giant catastrophe or the end of time in mostly all religions and cultures. It also refers to the usage of weapons of mass destruction or any large number of deaths in battle. The word ‘armageddon’ is a derivation from Mount Megiddo, the battle site of the famous Battle of Megiddo and other battles. The First World War was popularly referred to as “The Great War” and “Armageddon” before the onset of the Second World War.

The Bible contains many passages that include the concept of Armageddon but the word “Armageddon” is mentioned only in one place in Revelation 16:16 – “And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon” (KVJ). This prophecy reference is a little vague as to whether any event actually took place or the gathering of armies was merely an indication.

Jehovah’s Witnesses

According to Jehovah’s Witness religion, Armageddon is believed to be the anticipated war between the forces of good versus the forces of evil. The Kings of the Earth will untie against Jesus, God’s appointed King. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that Satan, himself will move the Earthly Kingdoms to wage war on God’s chosen lot of people. But the “King of Kings and Lord of Lords" because of his righteousness will defeat them for the glory of the Almighty God (Revelation 17:12-14).

As per Daniel 2:44 “And in the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to time indefinite.”

Seventh Day Adventists

The Seventh Day Adventists have a different view of the concept of Armageddon. They believe that the day of Armageddon will come after the thousand year period as mentioned in the Book of Revelation. The good will enter heaven to dwell with God and the wicked will be judged according to their sins. Christ, alongwith His saints will come down to Earth and raise the dead. The good and the evil will have one final war wherin Satan and his followers will try to overthrow the followers of Christ but will be defeated. The wicked will be consumed and destroyed by an overwhelming fire. The Earth will burn and then be made new as it was before sin entered it. It is then that Christ and His saints will be victorious.
