Blue-collar crimes are violent crimes that are commonly committed in the streets. The term blue-collar refer to laborers who do manual work. These are the people who rough it out in the streets to find a living. This is the relevance of the term blue-collar crime in relation to crimes committed in the streets.
The term is often distinguished from white-collar crime, so-called because it is considered as a non-violent crime which usually involves professional workers and government officers. These are crimes committed or in line with business activities including fraud, insider trading and corruption.

Blue-collar crimes are crimes that happen on the streets everyday. This is just one among the many types of crimes such as white-collar crimes and computer crimes which involves the use of computers in committing the crimes. Blue-collar crimes can be any, but not limited to the following
- Kidnapping
- Shoplifting
- vandalism
- rape

Blue-collar crimes are usually the crimes that get to the headlines of the newspapers as these are sensational crimes. It grabs the attention of the masses because it produces fear among the community. Because of this, it also creates pressure to the authorities.
These crimes can be committed by young people and can be directed against another's property like theft and shoplifting. Blue-collar crimes can also be directed against other persons such as rape and assault.
Blue-collar crimes can also be committed even without victims. Crimes such as these are punishable by law despite having no victims because these are considered violations of prevailing statutes. Among these crimes are drug abuse and prostitution.
One criticism against the judicial system is the alleged double standard in the implementation of laws against blue-collar and white-collar crimes. There are disparities as regards the enforcement, the severity of penalties and the percentage of conviction.
