Astrobiology combines sciences like astrology, biology and geology. Astrobiology investigates how life arose, its distribution and evolution. A major focus of astrobiology is life on other planets. To this end, research has focused on Mars as evidence suggests water one covered its surface. Water is assumed to be necessary for life by astrobiologists. Missions have also been planned to investigate other planets. Xenobiology disputes the assumptions made by astrobiologists to simplify astrobiology and as such are considered a separate field by many.
