Bioinformatics merges two main disciplines. These are biology and computer science. This field explores the use of computer programmes to solve biological questions. The focus is on algorithms and computational methods. A related field is computational biology which is mainly hypothesis testing. Bioinformatic’s major challenge has been the sequencing of large amounts of DNA fragments. It also has applications in evolutionary biology by assisting in the tracing of the evolution of organisms by measuring DNA changes.
