A continent is a large and continuous land mass. It is defined as "any of the main large land areas of the earth. Continent is Latin for continere meaning "to hold together". Continents are classified as geographic, tectonic, and geologic. Continents today are regarded as North America, South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and sometimes Antarctica. It is thought that these continents all came from one large super continent.
