Cryobiology is a branch of biology. This science focuses on the effects of low temperatures on organisms including organs, tissues and cells. In cryobiology research is mostly towards cryopreservation, cryosurgery and cryonics. This is not a new field as historically low temperatures have been utilized in medicine. Cryopreservation started with the preservation of the sperm and now has spread to the preservation of organs, tissues and cell suspensions like blood. It has been widely used in fertility research with the preservation of human sperm and eggs.
