Ethnography, which is often glossed as 'writing culture', describes the process of studying a set of social interactions or phenomena closely through fieldwork and then describing them within one of any given theoretical academic frameworks. Ethnography, which is a fundamental part of the academic discipline of anthropology can be understood as part of anthropologists' quest to describe social structure and human choices and behavior in as much detail as possible to enable the reader to put the specific interactions in context. Early ethnographers included explorers and colonial officials.
