Gender is used to refer to the roles, attitudes, cultural mores and norms, beliefs, patterns of self-identification, expectations, freedoms, restrictions, and epistemological foundations all related to biological sex that are prevalent in a society. Sociologists, anthropologists, and psychologists have marshalled evidence from different sourcs to argue that although both lean heavily on each other, gender and sex are not the same, rather that gender is a social construct arising from differences in sex.
