The history of Queensland is a varied one. The Aboriginal people, who have inhabited the land for 40 000 years, are only now getting back what was so rudely taken from them in the early 1800’s. The state began as a penal colony and went on to develop the industries of sugar and cattle, to survive the gold rush and the Second World War. It is now the state many Australians would like to live in because of its temperate climate and thriving economy.
