Entertainment is defined as being any form of amusement that captures the attention of a person or group of people, encompassing any participating individuals. This can also be achieved through the participation in a leisure activity. There are plenty of outlets that a person could explore when they are in search of some form of entertainment.

Individuals or groups of people can be entertained by the interaction with other living things, such as playing with a pet or watching a magician perform tricks. When people wish to enjoy themselves, they will often engage in a variety of activities, such as bowling, dancing or surfing the Internet.

There are plenty of businesses that are available to entertain a wide-range of characters and personalities, including the film industry, escort services, dating services and erotic entertainment. People often attend events seeking entertainment, such as participating in a parade or visiting a state fair, sporting event, beauty pageant (Miss America, Teen USA, Miss World), festivals, parties and the circus. There are many places that offer a variety of entertainment outlets, such as a movie theater, zoo, sports arena, nightclub, bar, casino, arcade, comedy club, restaurant or museum.

The media is able to entertain a large amount of people at the same time by providing films, books and radio for the public to enjoy. An example of this form of entertainment is television. According to the A.C. Nielsen Co, 99% of households in the United States own a television. Nielson also states that the average American watches more than 4 hours of television per day.

A person who provides outlets for amusement in order to make a living is called an entertainer. Examples of entertainers include a clown, comedian, actor, actress, singer, dancer, celebrities and sports personalities. Famous entertainers include Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Chris Rock, Al Pacino, Halle Berry, Madonna (entertainer) and Michael Jordan.

People engage in these activities in order to enjoy themselves. Once they find something of interest, this activity may be repeated whenever a person wishes to be entertained.

There are a variety of magazines and television shows that center around entertainment news. Television programs that possess a high level of entertainment include game shows, talk shows and reality television shows, such as MTV’s The Real World, Big Brother, Survivor and The Bachelor. Examples of talk shows feature hosts, such as Jerry Springer, Tyra Banks, Dr. Phil (Phil McGraw) and Oprah Winfrey. Well-known game shows include Price is Right, The Dating Game, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!.

Entertainment magazines include Entertainment Weekly, People, US Weekly, Rolling Stone.
