Four leaf clover

From ArticleWorld

Four-leaf clover is a rarity. The three leaf clover is more common. It has been estimated that there are about 10,00 three-leaf clovers for every four-leaf ones. A way of identifying a real four-leaf clover is by looking at the fourth leaf, which is usually smaller than the other three leaves. Three plants that produces four leaf clovers are Pepperwort or Water Clover Marsilea Quadrifolia, Oxalis Oxalis deppei or Oxalis tetraphylla.

Causes

  1. The unusualness of the four-leaf clover could be done to a recessive gene at a low frequency.
  2. Another possibility is that it is caused by a somatic mutation or a development error of environment causes.
  3. There is also, the consideration that it is caused by the interaction of several genes that happened to segregate in the individual plant.
  4. Finally, all four explanations could apply to certain individual four-leaf clover cases.

Observations

It has been noted by people looking for four-leaf clovers that certain patches of the ground were more likely to contain them. It could be partly due to variant growing conditions like:

  • pollution
  • soil composition
  • other environmental factors
