He has both a Canadian and British citizenship, considers himself British, but is very outspoken about being a proud Canadian

Myers began his acting career doing commercials at a very young age. When he graduated from high school he went straight to the Second City improvisational comedy troupe in Toronto. He had several television roles in Great Britain, including a children’s program, the "Wide Awake Club".

Myers became well known in the United States as being a member of Saturday Night Live from 1989 until 1995. In 1992, he teamed up with Dana Carvey for Wayne’s World, which ended up being much more successful than expected. They collaborated again the very next year in Wayne’s World 2.

Myers stepped into the role of Austin Powers in 1997 on the film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery This was a huge hit and he refilled the same role in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and yet again in 2002 as Austin Powers: Goldmember.

Myers made the news in June 2000 when he was sued by Universal Pictures for $3.8 million because he allegedly backed out of a movie contract. Myers had a reason for this and ended up counter-suing. Myers was voted in the top 50 comedy acts ever by his fellow artists in a recent 2005 poll. Myers is currently scheduled to begin work on another film soon where he will be playing the Who drummer Keith Moon.

Other films Myers has participated include So I Married an Axe Murderer in 1993, 54 in 1998, and the View from the Top and The Cat in the Hat, both in 2003. He has done voice-overs for all three Shrek productions as well.
