Psychic TV

From ArticleWorld

Psychic TV was primarily an electronic music group that sometimes had forays into psychedelic, punk, and experimental music. The band was formed by performance artist Genesis P-Orridge, Peter Christopherson and Alex Fergusson. The TV part of the name was in reference to their visual aspects.

First albums

Their first albums Force The Hand Of Chance and Dreams Less Sweet featured high production values, catchy pop songs written by Fergusson, with a barbershop quartet vocals style arranged by Andrew Pearson, sound experiments primarily created by Peter Christopherson and Geoff Rushton, also known as John Balance. Marc Almond of Soft Cell was also involved.

Image of healthy scene

From 1988 through 1992, Fred Giannelli and other techno artists released music not only as Psychic TV, but under a whole variety of fake names. This was in the hopes of creating a false sense of security that a healthy acid house scene existed in the UK.

Banishment

Giannelli imposed a self exile from the United Kingdom. This was due to a video he had created being used as evidence of Satanic Ritual Abuse. The video was later discredited as nothing of the sort, but not until the tabloid had repeated much of the allegations against him.

To compound on the situation, he also was forced to go through a divorce which had a very traumatizing effect upon him. He would release one more album and the groups final show was in 1999.

Psychic TV would have one final album, Trip-Reset, and would have their final show in 1999 at the Royal Festival Hall of London.

In 2003, Psychic TV would return and release a new album in the spring of 2006. Afterwards they were to go on tour which would last for 18 months. This new album would be the first album that they has released in over ten years.
