Sarah McLachlan was born January 28, 1968 and was adopted in Nova Scotia. She studied classical piano and guitar as a child in addition to taking voice lessons. At 17, she fronted a band called The October Game. She was voted by classmates as most likely to become a rock star. Early career

In 1988, McLachlan recorded her first album, Touch. It was both a critical and commercial success. In 1991, Solace became her breakout album in Canada. It included the hit single Into the Fire. Fumbling Towards Ecstasy was released in 1993. Though slow to catch on, it became an international success. Her album Surfacing is her best-selling album. This album made her both a Grammy Award winner as well as a Juno Award recipient. In addition to recording, McLachlan pioneered one of the biggest music festivals in the 90's. Lilith Fair raised more than $7 million for various charities.
