Sharpie (marker)
From ArticleWorld
Sharpie is the brand name of a complete line of markers made by a company called Sanford. Although the brand began simply with as a black permanent marker that was the only one of its kind – with the unique ability to leave markings in slick surfaces without worry of the ink rubbing off, there are now seven complete lines of Sharpies. Varieties include:
- Fine Point/Chisel Points
- Twenty four Colors ranging from pastel to neon to earthtones and even metallics (silver is currently the only metallic ink color available)
- Miniature versions of the most popular colors in chisel point with keyring attachments
Sharpies originated in 1964 and their popularity has increased in recent years leading to the development of a push-button style marker similar to that of a ball-point pen, with a retractable tip. Sharpies are certified non-toxic by the Art & Creative Materials Institute
