Mathematical biology is an interdisciplinary field that uses mathematical in modelling biological processes. This field has had a long history but it has only recently taken off. Reasons for this are the new bulk of data required to be processed as in genomics, new mathematical tools and an increase in computer technology that allows for calculations to be carried out and simulations that were previously impossible. Some areas of research in this field are population dynamics and molecular biology.
