Types

Jewelry can be expensive, valuable and a good investment if it is made of precious metals and stones. Gold, platinum, and sterling silver are used to make the settings of precious jewelry. Precious stones used in valuable jewelry include rubies, diamonds, sapphires, opal and emeralds. Many other stones are also used to create colorful, expensive jewelry. Coins are also used to make jewelry earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets.

Natural elements are also used to make jewelry, such as carved wood, glass, shells, bone, clay and polymer clay. Beads made of a myriad of types of materials are also used to make belts, earrings and bracelets. Beads come in a large variety of sizes.

Jewelry is made and worn for several parts of the body. Earrings are worn to adorn the ears. Ears may be pierced, where the earring actually attaches through the body. Other types of earrings attach to the ears with clips. Necklaces are hung around the neck with chains or other types of materials. They can be many different lengths, and come in many varying styles. Bracelets adorn the wrists. They can be chains, or ornamented with coins or stones. Rings are worn on the fingers or toes. They can be of a metal only, or in combinations of metals with stones. People all over the world seem to need to adorn their bodies with jewelry. Both men and women can be found wearing jewelry in most parts of the world.
