Americas refers to the landmass located in the Western hemisphere and formed by the continents of North and South America together with linked islands and dislocated landmass regions. The word was recently entered in the dictionary as an alternative to "America", which can refer to either the continents or the country of United States of America. The former meaning of the word meant the two continents were linked under a super-continent named Americas.
