Anesthesia (also known as anaesthesia) is the process of blocking an individual's perception of pain and other sensations. The practice permits a person to undergo surgery, which will be very painful and impossible to bear if anesthesia would not be used. Several forms of the process can be seen but three are more common:
- General - creates reversible loss of consciousness
- Local - consciousness is not lost and only the sensations in a region is lost
- Regional - bigger surface than a local anesthesia is affected.
