Hockey is a category of team games with roughly the same rules and objective: use a stick to maneuver a ball or puck into the opposing team’s goal. Some versions are played indoors; others outside. Ice hockey, usually played indoors on a frozen surface, has grown in popularity for men and women at all levels in North America and Northern Europe. Field hockey is normally played outdoors by men and women on the international and Olympic level; in the U.S. it is played almost exclusively by women in college and high school. Hockey is also played by teams on roller skates.
