Roma (singular Rom) are a nomadic people who live in Europe. They, and the closely related Sinti people, speak different versions of Romany, which is related to the languages of north India and Pakistan, from where they are originally. Roma culture and lifestyle is much-discussed and sometimes reviled, and the commonly used English word Gypsy is considered derogatory. Roma music is extremely distinctive, and connected to all virtually forms of music from north India to the Balkans, Romania, and more.
