Software is a term that is usually linked with computer software. It refers to a particular part of the computer system that is formed of encoded information. The first time the word was used with this meaning was in 1957. John W. Tukey is credited with this. In computers, software is loaded in RAM and then sent in the central processing unit (CPU) for execution. It is also considered an intermediary between data and electronic hardware.
