History

The idea of aerosol originated in 1790 – which is when self pressurized carbonated beverages were introduced in France. The first aerosol can and valve was created by Norway’s Erik Rotheim on November 23, 1927. In 1943, two United States Department of Agriculture researchers by the names of Lyle David Goodhue and W.N. Sullivan developed a small aerosol can that could be pressurized by liquefied gas. It was this design that made hair spray – and products similar to it – possible. (In addition to the work of Robert H. Abplanal, who in 1953 invented a valve that dispensed gases under pressure.) ‘’’Hair spray’’’ is commonly used to keep or create a hairstyle.
