How to clean a laptop's screen with household substances

From ArticleWorld

Laptop screens are usually cleaned with a special kit. It is a kit you can usually find in computer stores, but it is rather expensive and sometimes hard to find; anyone who had to clean their laptop's screen on a Sunday could tell you that.

The kit's special ingredient is a special solution, which you can actually do yourself.

Steps

  1. Make a mix of isopropyl alcohol. It should have at most 50% alcohol, while the rest should be distilled water. 35% alcohol is normally enough. If you cannot find distilled water, regular water is usually enough, but you have to make sure it is very clean; if it is not clean enough, it will leave some white spots on the screen..
  2. Take a clean cotton cloth and put some of the mix on it. Wipe the cloth against the screen, in a circular motion, making sure to apply constant pressure. Do not press the cloth with your finger; just apply enough pressure on it to hold it against the screen.

Warnings

It is very important to note that isopropyl alcohol is NOT the same type of alcohol that you can find in beer. That is ethyl alcohol. Unlike it, isopropyl alcohol is toxic. Make sure children cannot reach it, do not drink it and do not let it come in contact with your eyes. If you spill some on your hands, wash them very well with plenty of soap and water.

Notes

Many screen cleaning products include exactly the same mix of alcohol and water. Some also contain ethylene glycol, but the difference it makes is not too significant for a quick clean.

Try not to apply too much pressure on the cloth. If it leaves tracks of liquid on the screen, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use paper tissues.
