How to correctly connect a video card's power cable

From ArticleWorld

Like any other device in your computer, the video card needs some electric power to function. It gets it from your computer's power supply through its power cable, which is easy to spot due to its distinct appearance. Here is how to connect it.

Steps

1. Find the Molex connector. In the case of AGP cards, this is a rectangle-shaped, 4-pin connector. It is easy to spot one, because your hard disks have one, too. Newer, PCI Express cards, require an expanded Molex connector. This is easy to spot, too, because, while quite similar to the usual one, it has eight holes.

A special case here is that in which you do not have an expanded Molex connector on your power supply. You will need an adapter for that.

2. When plugging the connector in, the beveled edges must be facing the correct way. While it is not too easy to find this "correct way", especially if you do not have a good eye vision, there is one golden rule here: if the connector is oriented some way and it won't get in, you're holding it the wrong way. You do not have to force the connector inside: just apply some soft pressure, make a slight wiggling motion and press it into its location until stays firmly enough not to move.

Notes

The usual precautions against electrostatic discharges apply here as well. Wear an anti-static wristband or touch a metallic object before handling hardware.
