How to find documentation for your motherboard on the Internet

From ArticleWorld

If you are working with a computer, chances are you will need the motherboard's documentation every once in a while. This is often the case when you are changing hardware or troubleshooting problems that seem to be related to hardware.

Most computer components come with manuals nowadays. However, they may not be available on some occasions. Here is how to find them on the Internet.

Steps

  1. Begin by having a good look at the motherboard's original box. The exact model is written on it. If you do not have it anymore, than look at the motherboard. Carefully look on each side to find the name of the manufacturer and the exact model. Write it down.
  2. Using Google or any other search engine, run a web search, using the name of the model and the manufacturer as search terms. You can try to use the AND keyword (or your search engine's equivalent) to find pages that contain all the search terms. Pay special attention to results in PDF format: this is the format of choice when distributing electronic documents.
  3. If you fail to find this, go to the manufacturer's web page. After making sure that there is no documentation there either, try to contact them, either by phone or by e-mail. Politely ask if they have any documentation available. Have the details of your motherboard at hand (they may ask you to give a serial number, for example). It would probably be a good idea to have the board in front of you, if that is possible.
