How to switch from black and white to color printing on a Dell 940

From ArticleWorld

On some occasions, Windows will default a color-capable printer to printing black and white, although the printer does have the capability of printing in full-color. This guide shows you how to enable color printing on such systems.

Steps

  1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel. If you are using Windows XP, you should choose Switch to classical view from the right for easier operation.
  2. Double-click on the "Printers and faxes" icon. This will open a new view that displays the printers installed on your computer.
  3. Right-click on the printer whose settings you want to change, and choose "Properties".
  4. In the new window that pops up, go to the tab that is labeled "Color Management", "Color Setup" or anything similar (the naming depends on the manufacturer)
  5. Select "Color" instead of "Black Ink" or "Black and White"and click OK.

Notes

There are times when the printer will switch to black and white without any notice. This often happens with lower-quality printers when they have ran out of color ink. If your printer refuses to print in colors, although you have set it up correctly, check how much ink there is left.

If you cannot find any color-related settings, you should refer to the printer's manual. Some printers require different procedures for calibration.
