From ArticleWorld
A landmark refers to a distinctive, recognizable feature of the physical [[environment]. Landmarks used to be geographic features such as hills, cliffs, copses etc or, particularly for explorers, lighthouses and beacons. Today a landmark could as easily be a natural feature as a man-made structure, building or monument, and the word no longer refers to a pathfinder alone, but also to tourist attractions.
