History is the term used to describe information regarding the past. If one is studying History, the term then refers to the study and analysis of the information left behind by past human societies. The term history originates from the Greek language.

Historians tend to focus on the events that have been noted since the introduction of the earliest known written and historical records. Events before 3200 BC are considered as prehistory, which involves palaeontology and archaeology.
