Diamond is an allotrope of carbon. It possesses properties such as hardness and the dispersion of light that make it valuable in industrial uses as well as jewelry. Diamonds make good abrasives as they cannot be scratched by any material other than another diamond. They polish well and hold luster. These features contrite to their popularity, as well as other factors such as their availability has increased, better cutting methods and good advertising. They are assessed based on four factors called the four Cs which are carat, clarity, color and cut.
