Sexual hormones are biologically-created molecules that act upon an individual’s sex organs, either in the process of their formation or to promote sexual function. Female sexual hormones are generally estrogen-like or progesterone. These hormones help form the female reproductive system and allow for the menstrual cycle to occur. In men, most of the hormones produced are testosterone-like. These hormones are necessary to develop the male genitalia and for the production of sperm. Proper erectile function requires testosterone as well.
