What to write

To write good ads you must know how to get a reader’s attention. To achieve that, follow these steps:

  1. Review well-turned out ads and newspaper headlines, which will also give you the opportunity to brainstorm for your own ideas.
  2. Next, write 10 to 15 different headlines for your ad, leave them alone for a couple of hours then come back and chose the one that grabs your interest the most.
  3. Once you have chosen the ad you want, you will need to focus on generating interest for your viewer. To do this- state a fact, a quote, a solution to a problem. For example, you could follow a headline with “7/10 Americans think they are honest, 5/10 Americans are wrong.
  4. Next, it is important to create an need for the viewer to act. Whether it is to want a better relationship, or job, or just to save money. If you can make the viewer act on this need then you will get a new customer. An example, 10 serious threats to your health that most people overlook. To create a need for the viewer find out what those threats are.
  5. It is also important that you tell the viewer what action to take whether they need to make a phone call, click on a website link, or just purchase a product. You must be precise. An example: “Email doctorsinfo@www.com Today for a free report.
  6. The ad must consist of all the crucial information like your business name, product or service that exist, way for the viewer to contact you like website, phone, fax, address, logo.

Do’s

Do present your ad in a nice-looking format with plenty of white space, simply to read fonts, and understandable graphics or pictures. Also, remember to proofread for spelling and grammar errors. Do be consistent in your ads with formatting, colors, logo, and company name. Do get the opinions of people you trust like your coworkers, friends, and maybe some strangers. Try to listen carefully to what they say and then think about it. Do have your ad tested. You would not want to have to keep redoing the ad because it has not garnered any attention.

Helpful hints

You will need people to sell to these “ready to buy” customers, advertising won’t be able to do that. What advertising does is bring you prospects, and not that many. If the ad works let it keep going consistently, keep the same media, number of times you run the ad, page, as long as, your resources permit.

Don’ts

  1. Advertising people do not know how to sell effective ads.
  2. Don’t think that if advertising people offer to do the ad for free it will be a great deal. They are sale reps who make their salary by selling, not writing.
