A History of Violence (film)

A man, the owner of a restaurant, lives with his wife and two children in a small town in Indiana. After defending other people in an attempted robbery, he gains national fame. After that, he gets a visit from mobsters from Philadelphia who claim they know of his violent past.

Plot

Tom Stall(Viggo Mortensen)owns a restaurant in Millbrook, Indiana. Recently, he’s attained some fame when he fought crime by killing during an attempted robbery.

His son, Jack, has been getting bullied by other kids, and is beginning to fight back. When mobsters arrive from Philadelphia, after hearing about Tom’s fame, they claim they want revenge.

Resolution

The mobsters led by Carl Fogarty(Ed Harris) capture Jack. Fogarty says that Tom damaged his face in Philadelphia. He says that Tom’s real name is Joey Cusack. The boy is freed in exchange for Tom. In a scuffle, Jack kills Carl. But before Carl dies, Tom admits to Carl that he injured him. And he admits that he is Joey.

Joey(Tom)must settle a score with his crazed, mob boss brother in Philadelphia. In a confrontation, Tom shows his natural inclination for violence when he kills his brother like it was his second nature. Then, he proceeds to destroy all of his brother’s gang members.

Tom returns to his home in Indiana, but something is different. Everyone has a change in attitude toward him. People are not so sure he’s the hero they want in their little town.
