MPB is short for Música Popular Brasileira, which means literally Brazilian Popular Music. This is a direct fusion of the traditional folk music of Brazil with the modern style of pop and rock. It has gained a huge fan base in Brazil and in the neighboring countries. It is a direct example of what is labeled as World Music in genre. It has been in existence since the 1960’s and has only been gaining in popularity since.
