Secret societies are organizations that oblige members to keep certain practices secret. The most common element hidden is the rite of initiation. Members must sometimes deny their memberships and must take an oath to hold the society’s secrets. Fraternal organizations that have secret ceremonies are also secret societies. It is believed that such successful organizations are known only by members. This would translate in a successful and effective secret society.
