From ArticleWorld

The skeletal system is that aspect of the human body which provides the structure and which facilitates movement. Many skeletal structures also protect more delicate structures beneath them. There are over 200 skeletal bones in the human body. The bones can be irregular in shape, long bones, short bones or flat bones. The skeleton provides movement to the body by means of joints that connect two or more bones to one another via ligaments. Muscles attach to the skeleton to provide power behind the skeletal movement.
