The Vatican City is the smallest state in the world. It covers an are of only 0.44 square kilometers and is located within Rome, Italy. The governor of Vatican City is the Pope. Its government is mainly ecclesiastical and clergymen occupy the highest positions in the state. The city is considered to be the capital of the Roman Catholic Church. The Vatican City territory has been considered sacred even before people inhabited it. The first church was Constantine’s basilica.
