World War I (also known as the First World War, the War of the Nations or the Great War) was a world conflict that lasted four years from August 1914 till November, 1918. The Allied Powers (including France and Great Britain with USA joining in 1917) defeated the Central Powers (the German Empire, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire) years after the former attack.
