Coldplay is in the genres post-Britpop, alternative, and rock. They are a band from London, United Kingdom.


They are known for their rock melodies and introspective lyrics.

Coldplay's early material was reminiscent of artists such as Radiohead, Oasis, Kate Bush. Martin has stated that he has also been greatly influenced by U2.

Coldplay's surge in popularity hasn't changed that they have remained very protective of how their music is used in the media. The band allows their music to be used in films, television, and promotional spots such as the movie trailer to Peter Pan and even for a PBS television self-promotional. They also are permitting a charity Cancer Research UK to use "Fix You" on an upcoming campaign. However, Coldplay have been adamantly against the use of their music in actual product endorsements. The band turned down multi-million dollar contracts from Diet Coke, Gatorade, and The Gap, from using the songs "Yellow", "Trouble", and "Don't Panic."

Since their release A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay have also been active supporters of various social and political causes.

They have been advocates for Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and also Amnesty International.

The group has also performed at various charity projects such as Live 8, Band Aid 20, and the Teenage Cancer Trust. Martin was outspoken against the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Bassist Guy Berryman says, "You can make people aware of issues. It isn't very much effort for us at all, but if it can help people, then we want to do it"

Coldplay is: Chris Martin, Jon Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion. They have had, to date 14 hit singles and are working on their ninth album.

They are one of the few bands that try to release albums in the same volume as the bands of old. Where they used to release multiple albums per year.
