History of formula one

From ArticleWorld

Before Formula One: While the modern era of Formula One (F1) began in 1950, the roots can be traced back further, as far back as some of the earliest road races in France in the 1890s. The first race using the name "Grand Prix" was the 1901 French Grand Prix held at Le Mans.

In the Beginning: After interruptions for WWI and WWII, Formula One (originally named Formula A) was born in 1950. On 10 April 1950, Juan Manuel Fangio (driving a Maserati) won the first official Formula One race, the Pau Grand Prix.

British Dominance: British drivers and teams came to dominate Formula One racing, with British F1 teams winning 12 World Championships in the 1960s and 1970s.
