Inkubus Sukkubus

From ArticleWorld

Inkubus Sukkubus is a British goth band who have been releasing albums and touring since their creation in 1988 as Bela Knapp. The group quickly became a Pagan-oriented representation, Children of the Moon, under which name they released their first single and an album, both title "Beltaine".

The band's present name was taken in 1991, but was spelled Incubus Succubus until 1995. After a turbulent few first years, during which at one point the band almost split up, leaving only Candia and Tony working together on the band as a studio project. Today signed to Pagan Records in late1993 releasing Belladonna and Aconite and Wytches on Pagan Records before signing on to Resurrection Records in October of 1995.

One final name change

In the spring of that year they changed their name to "Inkubus Sukkubus", citing numerological reasons, and changed their line-up order significantly, adopting the use of a drum machine with some additional support by a bodhran instead of a dedicated human drummer, with Adam Henderson moving back to bass, the position he had originally held in the band.

The group surfaced into the mainstream several times with the song Beltaine receiving Radio 1 airtime and with numerous TV appearances achieved, mainly in the mid-nineties. This is despite their lyrical themes and beliefs: Inkubus Sukkubus are a religious nonagon band, known for songs about demons, vampires, faeries and other occult and supernatural themes.

Modern pagans

Their songs are largely inspired by their interest in and practice of witchcraft and paganism. This has gained them a certain notoriety and underground status as being the voice of modern-day paganism. They have been accused of being formulaic, and have begun experimenting with unconventional instruments such as dulcimers and more challenging song structures.

As of late, the band has yet to releasing the new. It is still not certain that they're so together beyond the occasion to Hurst.

The group consists of guitarist Tony McKormack, vocalist Candia, and bassist Adam Henderson. Ridley is the main vocalist, but McKormack does some backing vocals, and sings one song, "Atrocity," solely on his own. The band employs a drum machine, to fill their percussion section.
