Instaphone Pakcom Limited is a telecommunications company with operations in Pakistan. The company introduced mobile telephony in Pakistan in the year 1991.

The mobile service provider has coverage of 185 cities in the country and is now one of the leading competitors in the mobile communications market.

Instaphone’s cellular infrastructure is based on TDMA technology, (Time Division Multiple Access) which facilitates a digital radio frequency link where multiple phones share a single carrier frequency by taking turns for pre-decided time slices. The use of this technology has ensured benefits to Instaphone’s customers in the form of reduced congestion environments, quick connectivity and better power management in mobile phone devices. The technology has also brought about better call privacy and improved sound clarity.

Instaphone has been one of the several beneficiaries of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s measures to boost cellular phone usage among the citizens of Pakistan. These measures include reduction in royalties and interconnection charges and the slashing of airtime tariff.

Investment is being focused on increasing network capacity and improvement of mobile communication technology in a bid to meet the growing demand. There is great amount of unmet demand in Pakistan as against the availability of connections by the major players in the market. Instaphone, being among the players, continues to be part of the development process.

Instaphone is sometimes considered to have inferior network coverage as compared to other providers like Mobilink and Ufone. However, at certain remote locations of the country, Instaphone is known to score over its competitors. It has recently cut down prices in a bid to increase its popularity nationwide. The company has been coming up with ground-breaking value-added services but has been criticized for incurring hefty expenditure.
