Mor ve Ötesi is a Turkish band that called Istanbul as home and have been in the music world since 1995. They have released five albums to date and have gone through a number of revamps in the band roster.

In A Name

Mor ve Ötesi means literally purple and beyond. This name is a play on words with the pun regarding ulta-violet.

Roster

Mor ve Ötesi was formed in 1995 with a line-up comprising of: Kerem Kabadayı, Drums; Harun Tekin, Vocals, Guitar; Derin Esmer, Vocals, Guitar; Alper Tekin, Bass.

Their current lineup is: Harun Tekin, Kerem Kabadayı, Burak Güven and Kerem Özyeğen.

Former members include Alper Tekin and Derin Esmer.

Style

They are known for their politically charged lyrics. These have had been cutting edge in their style, but have had a negative response by some.


1996

They released their first album Şehir in 1996 and played at their first live concert outside Istanbul at METU, Ankara.

1999

In 1999, Bırak Zaman Aksın, their second album was released to massive success. After the devastating Kocaeli earthquake, Mor ve Ötesi started playing more on social and political themes. They have been very active in the opposition against the use of nuclear energy in Turkey.

2001

They released their third album, Gül Kendine.


Yaz and 2004

In the summer of 2003, the single "Yaz" debuted. This was a cover tribute for one the famous Turkish superstar Ajda Pekkan during the seventies.

Their fourth album "Dünya Yalan Söylüyor" was released a year later. The album became their most popular album in Turkey but was not admired by their die hard fans as much as their other albums.

The album had a huge amount of political content against USA's activities both in Iraq and the rest of the world.

This same year, they received a Golden Orange Award for their music for the movie, "Mustafa Hakkında Her Şey"

Currently

Their fifth album "Büyük Düşler" was released on May 8, 2006. This album is regarded as their return to their old fans and their old style. Although none of the Mor Ve Ötesi albums are in the exactly same style. They have shown the ability to evolve with each successive album.
