Lay to claim

Some sources state that the onion ring was developed in the 1950’s, when Sam Quigley began the process of perfecting his recipes for hand cut and hand breaded onion rings. He quietly sold a limited number of them out of his Nebraska storefront. Others claim that the first onion rings were created by pig stand restaurants in the 1920’s.

Link to rock and roll

There are numerous places that use the onion ring as one of the trademark sides that are made to help create the setting of the birth of rock and roll in diners. This is typical in 50’s and 60’s style dinners that are trying to sell on an image and a simple list of entries to the public.

Fried vs baked

Some places have begun to bake onion rings and this doesn’t always come with success, often the onion rings will get burnt on one side or they become soggy in spots.

The other new craze in businesses has been to use partial onions or even freeze dried onions. This is common in mass production of onion rings for fast food places, yet they are seldom accepted with any joy. They are obvious differences with the onion that is in the ring and the fragments that are also used.

Variants

There are also other variations of the onion ring available. Such as the tobacco ring which are crisp onion rings that appear to be over cooked. There are also funions which are dehydrated onion rings that are fried and sold as a form of chips.
